Ludhiana bizman kills wife, son, turns gun on himself
LUDHIANA: Upset over losses in business, an industrialist allegedly shot dead his wife and son and critically injured his daughter before turning the gun on himself at his bungalow at the posh Model Town Extension here on Wednesday night.
Jagmeet Pal Singh Khurana, 40, who owns a furnace unit at Focal Point, used his licensed .32 bore pistol to open fire at his wife Jaspreet Kaur, 38, son Jashandeep Singh,18, and daughter Bisman Kaur, 15.
The wife and son died whereas Bisman, who took a bullet on her neck, is battling for life at Dayanand Medical College and Hospital.
Police commissioner RN Dhoke visited the spot and said prima facie it seemed Jagmeet first shot his family members before committing suicide. “We are exploring all angles,” he added.
Police have registered a case under sections 302 (muder) and 307 (attempt to murder) of the IPC.
Jagmeet lived with his family on the first floor of the house while his mother Mohinder Kaur lived on the ground floor.
The incident came to light on Thursday morning when car washer Dharminder went upstairs to collect keys of the vehicle. He found the door bolted from inside and there was no response to his repeated knocking.
He alerted Mohinder Kaur, who asked the family driver Desraj to go and check on her son’s family. Desraj peeped through the window and found Bisman lying on the floor of the lobby in pool of blood. Mohinder Kaur called police who broke open the door and found the bodies of Jasmeet and Jashandeep inside a room. The merchant’s body was found in the adjoining room with a revolver next to it.
Bisman was rushed to the hospital. Doctors said Bisman regained consciousness in the evening but did not utter a word.
Mohinder Kaur told police that Jagmeet was upset over losses in business. Police said the entire family had applied for a permanent residency in Canada.
Model Town station house officer Surinder Chopra said the autopsy would divulge more details such as how many bullets were fired.
In August last year, a local businessman Gurmeet Singh had allegedly murdered his wife with an ice pick and tried to kill his son. He was also upset over losses in business.
