Security beefed up for Rampal supporters’ event in Rohtak
ROHTAK: Controversial self-styled godman Rampal’s supporters are all set to host a mega event to observe Kabir Jayanti in Rohtak on Friday. Thousands of supporters of the Rampal, a self-styled godman of the Kabir panth, have already gathered here while more are expected to reach by Friday morning.
The event has alerted security forces in the district owing to a history of violent clashes between Rampal supporters and Arya Samajis, who have started a dharna at mini-secretariat demanding the administration to cancel the event.
The event organisers said they went to Hisar jail to record Rampal’s message, which they will play on large screens here for two hours for his devotees. “Going by Rampal’s teaching”, they will also solemnise at least 50 weddings without any exchange of dowry during the event.
A mega kitchen has been set up where cooks have started preparing sweets such as jalebis and ladoos for lakhs of devotees of the godman. Supporters of the godman claim they have made about 2,500 quintal of sweets for 20 lakh devotees. They say they organise this programme every year on Kabir Jayanti.
The administration has given a conditional permission to the organisers taking affidavits that they will maintain peace and no speech targeting any specific caste or religion will be made from the stage.
“If not obeyed, the permission granted to them may be cancelled at last minute,” SP Pankaj Nain said. He said the police had deployed reserve force as well and were ready to deal with any eventuality.
