Woman, minor daughter allege rape, blackmail by Delhi man; accused held
GURGAON: A week after the shocking gang-rape of a woman and murder of her eight-month-old infant in Manesar, the Gurgaon police on Friday arrested a man for allegedly raping a widow and her minor daughter.
Police said the accused, identified as 20-year-old Ashish Kumar, was arrested from Rajendra Park area around 11.30 am on Friday. He is the son of a sub-inspector of Delhi Police.
The victim lodged a complaint with the police on Thursday night and a case was registered at Rajendra Park police station, said assistant commissioner of police Manish Sehgal, a spokesperson of the Gurgaon police. He said the case against the accused was registered under sections 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code, as well as section 4/12 of the Protection of Children From Sexual Offences Act, 2012.
“The accused has been arrested and the police are investigating the matter,” he said.
The woman, who hails from Uttarakhand, works in a car manufacturing company in Gurgaon. For the last one year, she had been living in a rented accommodation in Gurgaon along with her 15-year-old daughter and 11-year-old son.
“The accused held them hostage for the last one month and threatened them repeatedly. He even escorted her to office and back. He raped the minor daughter in her mother’s absence,” a relative of the woman said.
The relative said he came to know about the incident only when the woman’s father, along with the two children, came to their house around 10.30pm on Thursday and revealed the shocking details to them.
On hearing this, the family members, along with a few neighbours, cordoned off the woman’s house and confronted the accused, who tried to escape through the roof but was caught and thrashed by the people.
Then, her family members called the police and had him arrested.
In her complaint to the police, the victim said a month ago, she went to Rajendra Park market where she met the accused, a resident of Amar Colony, Gokul Pur, in Delhi.
The woman said she shared her address with him during that first meeting.
Realising that she was a widow and was living with her daughter and son, the accused visited them the next day around 6.30pm and, on finding her alone, forced himself on her, the woman alleged.
“When I tried to raise my voice, he stifled me. The next day, he again visited me around 9pm and raped me several times that night. He also made a video using his phone,” the woman told the police.
“Thereafter, he allegedly blackmailed her using the video. He raped and molested both the mother and daughter repeatedly,” a police officer said.
The accused also threatened to kill the woman’s family if she dared to reveal her ordeal to anyone. He also threatened to circulate the videos on social media. The woman said she kept the abuse to herself, fearing further humiliation.
On the night of May 29, a 19-year-old woman was gangraped by three persons in Manesar. Her infant daughter was choked to death.
The police arrested two of the accused on Wednesday, while the third man was nabbed on Thursday.
