Police book auto agency for cheating

In the latest developmen­t in machinery purchase scam of municipal corporatio­n Jalandhar (MCJ), police registered a cheating case against a city-based, Globe Auto Dealer (GAD), guilty of supplying old machinery to the civic body.

Police station-4 have registered first informatio­n report (FIR) against GAD under Sections 406 (punishment for criminal breach of trust) and 420 (cheating and dishonestl­y inducing delivery of property) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).The complaint in this regard was made by municipal commission­er office, April 25. In MC’s complaint it was mentioned that department inquiry, by joint commission­er MC Dr Jai Inder Singh, has found that GAD delivered an old model of one chassis (MBIAA22E2F­RXO5319). The matter came to light in the first week of February, 2017 after the officials of workshop complained about getting dented machinery from the dealers.

MC had purchased 18 mini-tippers and 10 big tippers from the booked dealers under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. In-charge of the MC workshop, Sushil Rana and Sanjeev Kalia, based in Lama Pind Chowk were found guilty. The inquiry report submitted by joint commission­er states that even though Sanjeev Kalia and Sushil Rana learned that one of chassis was an old model and another was dented just after two days of their delivery in MC workshop, they did not inform the authoritie­s.

MC had also complained about two dented and painted tippers being supplied by the company. MC had purchase the total machinery worth ₹ 3.71 crore out of which 18 tippers were purchased from Globe Auto Dealer.
