A day after former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda held a Kisan Mahapanchayat on the issue of farmers, Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee president Ashok Tanwar said on Saturday that he will also start a 'satyagrah' in Karnal.

Denying reports of internal bickering within the Congress, Tanwar said that all leaders are protesting against the antifarmer policies of the ruling party in their own way.

“We are united and you will see all leaders come together in the future,” said Tanwar when asked about his differences with former chief minister BS Hooda, who also claims to enjoy the support of several Congress MLAs in the state.

When asked if Hooda and his supporters will also join the Satyagrah, Tanwar said, “All party workers and leaders have been informed about it and now all should reach to participate.”

Briefing about the programme, Tanwar said, “A threeday Satyagrah will be organised at Karnal from June 19, the birthday of Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, and later such programmes will be organised in all parts of the state.”

Tanwar said the Satyagrah was being organised to protest against the anti-people policies of the ruling BJP.

The HPCC chief also slammed the BJP government’s initiative of organising programmes to mark Yoga Day saying, “Farmers are committing suicide and protesting on the roads but the BJP leaders are misleading people by holding Yoga camps. Instead of organising such events, the government should take steps to resolve the issues of farmers.”

SURJEWALA TO START KISAN, MAZDOOR BACHAO ANDOLAN

Another Congress leader Randeep Surjewala, who is the party’s spokesperson, has also decided to start Kisan aur Mazdoor Bachao Andolan from Hisar on June 23.

Sources close to Surjewala said that he will organise the programme under the banner of Haryana Kisan Khet Mazdoor Congress and party leaders from the state will reach Hisar to attend the programme.
