Owing to the raid on the chief minister’s camp office here, the local Congress leadership is fuming over the working of Amritsar Police.

Additional chief secretary (ACS) (home) N S Kalsi reached the city to conduct a detailed probe in the incident on Saturday. Kalsi with police commissioner SS Srivastava visited the CM’s camp office and met the local bodies minister Navjot Singh Sidhu among others.

The ACS did not say much but the local Congress leaders upset over incident sought registration of case against the erring police officials. Notably, the police commissioner has already suspended two inspectors including SHO Gate Hakima Police Station Harinder Singh and CIA in-charge inspector Arwinder Singh.

Sources said, “As DCP Amritsar Amarjit Singh Bajwa had instructed the police team to raid, his role has also come under scanner.”

Srivastava said, “A high level probe is being conducted and DCP Bajwa’s role will also be investigated.”

“It was unintentional. The raid was not on the CM’s camp office. We had information about a suspect hiding at the premises of PWD rest house which also houses the CM’s camp office,” said Srivastava . About the presence of Akali leaders during the raid, the police commissioner said that he does not know about that. It is learnt that Kalsi met both the suspended inspectors and the DCP to know their side of the story.

Notably, on Wednesday evening a police team led by the two inspectors had raided the premises in which CM’s camp office is there in search of a suspect related to some theft case, at the Court road.

The Congressmen and the staff of the CM’s camp office were upset due to the presence of Akali workers during the raid.

Local bodies minister Navjot Singh Sidhu, MLA Inderbir Bolaria, MLA Sunil Datti, MLA OP Soni, MLA Dr Raj Kumar Verka, Amritsar MP Gurjit Aujla on Saturday had held a meeting on the issue and also expressed their views to both Kalsi and Srivastava.

Sidhu said, “Chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh is upset with the police action. This is the reason that action has been taken against cops. Anyone involved, including senior officers, will not be spared and we also want that a case to be registered against the erring police officials.” Sidhu said that the ACS is likely to submit his report in a day or two.

The city police officials who are under pressure after the incident made most of effort to avoid media on Saturday.

The media persons were asked to remain away and certain police officers also objected to clicking photographs of the officials.
