Mother-daughter commit suicide in SBS Nagar, 2 held

DISTURBED OVER THE ‘ILLICIT RELATIONSHIP’ OF HER HUSBAND, THE WOMAN AND HER DAUGHTER JUMP INTO BISTDOAB CANAL

SBS NAGAR: Disturbed over the ‘illicit relationship’ of her husband, a woman and her daughter committed suicide by jumping into Bist-Doab Canal in Manewala village near Kathgarh town of the district on Saturday late night.

The bodies of Kulwinder Kaur, 40, and Jaskirat Kaur ,18, of Manewala village were recovered on Sunday morning by swimmers and cops. Station house officer (SHO) Kathgarh police station Jagar Singh said, as per victim’ s brother Paramjeet Singh, Kulwinder’s husband Gurpal Singh ,45, was in an illicit relationship with one Sarbjeet Kaur living in an adjoining house. SHO said on Paramjeet’s statement, a case under Section 306 (abetment of suicide) of the IPC has been registered against Gurpal and Sarbjeet. The duo have been arrested. “As the woman and her daughter jumped in the canal late-night, we failed to recover the bodies. The swimmers were able to retrieve the body on Sunday,” said the SHO.

Further, the bodies have been handed over to the family after post-mortem.
