SHIMLA: Himachal Pradesh’s sixtime chief minister Virbhadra Singh, who turned 83 on Friday, said he is set for another innings in politics as the state goes to the polls later this year.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi wished Virbhadra good health on his birthday. “Birthday wishes to Himachal Pradesh CM @virbhadrasingh ji. Praying for his good health and long life.(sic),” tweeted PM Modi.

On the occasion, the Himachal CM, who is facing a disproportionate assets case, said he has weathered many challenges and faced political upheavals in his life. “Challenges are always there even if you play football or hockey. They are in politics as well,” he said.

Virbhadra said he is writing a book on his political life which he plans to publish after his retirement.

“I don’t want to hurt anyone’s sentiments as there will be many sweet and bitter memories in my book,” he added.

The chief minister’s birthday was celebrated with much fanfare at his private residence Holly Lodge in Shimla.

People gathered here in their traditional costumes with drums and trumpets to wish him healthy and long life.

“I have received love and affection from the people of my state. I am indebted to them,” he said.

Virbhadra’s wife Pratibha Singh and son Vikramaditya Singh were present as the chief minister cut his cake.

The chief minister inaugurated a blood donation camp organised by state’s tourism department.
