Kumble: Coach should earn 60% of skipper’s fees
NEW DELHI: Former India coach Anil Kumble’s 19-page proposal on restructuring of contracts to the BCCI says that the “chief coach should earn 60% of the captains’ estimated earnings”. The document also supports national coaches “earning from IPL” to “augment their income”, without specifying whether it amounts to ‘Conflict of Interest’. He also suggested that 20% of the players’ central contracts should be variable pay based on their “fitness standards”, PTI has reported. Kumble made the presentation to the Committee Of Administrators (COA) on its request on May 21. Titled ‘Restructuring of Remuneration And Contracts of Personnel Of The Indian Cricket Team’, Kumble proposed a hike for the support staff. Under the heading ‘The Suggested Change: Enablers’, he has given a tabulation chart. ‘Enablers’ refers to support staff. He suggests a hike of the coach’s salary to ~7.5 crore from ~6.5 crore, “at 60% of captains’ estimated earnings’. Also, 30% of his salary will be variable bonus depending on the team’s performance. The chart also suggested that batting coach Sanjay Bangar’s salary be hiked from ~1 crore to ~2.25 crore and fielding coach R Sridhar should get ~1.75 crore instead of ~1 crore with “retrospective effect” from June 1, 2016.
