2 high court judges take oath of office
CHANDIGARH: The Punjab and Haryana high court on Wednesday got two new additional judges. Justice Raj Shekhar Attri and justice Gurvinder Singh Gill were administered oath of office by chief justice SJ Vazifdar on Wednesday morning. Justice Gill had been working as registrar general for over three years and justice Attri was posted as district and sessions judge, Jalandhar. Both of them were from the Punjab Judicial Service.
With these two appointments, the number of judges at the high court has gone up to 48, against the sanctioned strength of 85. Last appointment of an additional judge at the high court was of justice Harminder Singh Madaan in December 2016.
Their names, including that of justice Madaan, were sent in June 2016 . However, Madaan was elevated in December 2016.
In December 2016, names of legal remembrancer and administrative secretary, Haryana (law and legislative department), Kuldip Jain; Faridabad district and sessions judge Inderjeet Mehta; and Panipat district and sessions judge Anil Kumar Singh Panwar were cleared by the high court collegium in December 2016, but are still under consideration.
Meanwhile, Arun Kumar Tyagi, a district and sessions judge-level officer, who was registrar, vigilance, with the high court administration has been posted as registrar general of the high court.
Tyagi will also look after the charge of registrar, vigilance, till further orders, a communication from the HC administration said.
