Heritage Street flooding: DC to take up matter with civic body
AMRITSAR: A day after the Heritage Street leading to Golden Temple was left flooded due to heavy rain on Wednesday, deputy commissioner (DC) has decided to take up the matter with the local civic body and seek technical input.
The entire stretch from Town Hall till the Golden Temple Plaza was inundated.
With the flooded street images going viral, DC Kamaldeep Sangha said, “Yes I have seen the images and I will take discuss it with the municipal corporation to avoid such situations in future.”
The DC however added that as it rained heavily and many parts of the city were flooded so the ‘Heritage Street’ cannot be separated the situation.
Notably, their was lot of focus on this project last year and the SAD-BJP had carried out many drives to publicise the project.
GETTING RID OF WATER QUICKLY, SAYS MC
The municipal corporation (MC) officials here claimed that all efforts were being done and even cleaning of sewerage system was done. MC commissioner Gurloveleen Sidhu said, “The streets will definitely get inundated due to heavy rains.But my officers cleared the area quickly as compared to previous years.”
“Our teams are on job and de-silting is being done.We are working to make things more effective and super suction is also put in place to clean the sewerages,” Sidhu said.
MC employees were seen working actively to ensure that the water is cleared from the street.
The team also opened manholes to check and ensure that the stretch remains clear of water.
Meanwhile Anurag Mahajan, SE, municipal corporation said, “There was a time that water remained stagnant in this area for 12 hours but now the work is done within about one and a half hour. This reveals that we had taken precautions and had cleaned the sewerage system. Water cannot be drained out immediately but we can work making the system work quicker.”
