VIGILANCE SUSPENDS FOUR POLICEMEN OVER BRIBERY
Punjab vigilance bureau on Friday suspended its four police officials, including an inspector, two head constables and a constable, for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 1.5 lakh.
A departmental inquiry has been initiated against the accused police personnel who were posted at the VB range in Ferozepur.
Disclosing this here on Friday, vigilance bureau chief director BK Uppal gave details of the case.
He said a corruption case was registered against forest department superintendent Shehjata Ram at the VB police station in Ferozepur on October 26 last year.
He later submitted a written complaint stating that the four vigilance officials had taken bribe amounting to Rs 1.5 lakh in lieu of favouring him in preparation of a cancellation report in his case.
Uppal added that, on the basis of a preliminary investigation, he has immediately taken disciplinary action and placed the four officials — inspector Kuldip Singh, head constables Charan Singh and Satnam Singh, and constable Navjeet Singh — under suspension.
He added that the senior superintendent of police (SSP), vigilance bureau range, Ferozepur, has also been asked to conduct a fact-finding inquiry and recommend further action, if any, under the provisions of law.
Uppal also asked the public as well as “all honest public servants” to help the VB in its anticorruption drive in the state and inform the bureau on its toll free helpline 1800-1800-1000 from 8am to 8pm if any public servant demands bribe.
