CONG GOVT’S 100 DAYS

Captain Amarinder Singh, who completed 100 days in power on June 24, held his first formal interactio­n with the media on Tuesday, listing his achievemen­ts and announcing a few new decisions

SIRENS & HOOTERS

No sirens, hooters on VIP vehicles as they are “troublesom­e”. Govt had earlier banned the use of beacons on government vehicles to end VIP culture in the state.

JOBS

A job fair for 50,000 persons will be held at Khooni Majra in Mohali in August to create employment opportunit­ies for youths. Also, the government plans to set up a skill-developmen­t university in Chamkaur Sahib.

LOKPAL

Government to bring a new, comprehens­ive Lokpal Bill soon. The chief minister, ministers and bureaucrat­s will be in its ambit. Also, a move is afoot to give judicial powers to panchayats.

HEALTH

Government to set up a new medical college in Mohali and launch a special drive to fill vacancies of super-specialist­s in hospitals. Incentive of 30% planned for PCMS doctors in the NEET for post-graduation.

LITIGATION

High court requested to set up special courts to settle matters concerning NRIs and serving soldiers to improve governance. Chief secretary asked to look at cases filed by government employees to cut down litigation.

EDUCATION

Government to establish a horticultu­re university in Abohar. Punjab Agricultur­al University, Ludhiana, not to be bifurcated but will act as mentor to the new university.

TRANSPORT

Cabinet to discuss new transport policy and ban on truck unions on Wednesday, besides putting its stamp of approval of establishm­ent of a ₹100crore Road Safety Fund.

SAND MINES

Government to hold e-auction for 55 sand mining sites across the state on Wednesday through the progressiv­e bidding process. It got revenue of ₹280 crore from the first round of auctions.
