GURGAON: A 15-year-old student of CD Senior Secondary School on Sohna Road in Gurgaon allegedly jumped off the second floor of the school building on Tuesday.

The Class 9 student was rushed to a private hospital in Badshapur and was then referred to Medanta in Sector 38 where he is undergoing treatment. His condition is critical.

Police sources said the student, who hails from Islampur village on Sohna Road, sustained grievous injuries on the head and has fractured his right hand.

According to sources, the child had a tiff with his parents a few days ago over buying a new bike.

“He had been demanding a new bike and fought with his parents over it. His father, however, refused. The fact that his brother had got a new motorcycle and he didn’t, made him depressed,” the source said.

A member of the school management said the other students in his class felt that the boy had been seemingly upset.

“He didn’t attend the school on Monday — the day when the school reopened after summer vacations. He came on Tuesday and appeared frustrated,” the member said.

The member also alleged that the boy had climbed a building near his home in Islampur a few days back over the same issue. A classmate of the boy told HT that he had been saying he will jump from the school building since he came to school.

Rajendra Yadav, SHO Badshahpur police station, said the police rushed to the spot after the school management informed them about the alleged suicide bid.

“He jumped off the second floor of the school building around 8.30am. His parents were informed. He was admitted to hospital where he is undergoing treatment,” Yadav said.

He said the child sustained injuries on his head and some police officers are at the hospital, waiting to record his statement. A case will only be registered after the statement is recorded.
