Kaithal court summons 16 for loot and arson

KAITHAL : The district court on Wednesday summoned 16 people as accused for their alleged involvement in violence and arson during the Jat agitation in February last year.

The orders were issued by the court of additional district and sessions judge Sudip Goel on Wednesday and all those summoned have been directed to appear before the court on next hearing on September 21.

Notably, the case was registered on the complaint of Rishipal and others alleging that their shops were looted and torched during the agitation on February 20 last year.

The complainant alleged that on February 20, a group of people looted their shops at Kainchi Chowk in Kalayat town of the district and also took away mobiles, SIM cards, printers and cash, besides setting their shops on fire.

Following the complaint, the police registered a case on March 8 , 2016 under Section 148, 149, 395,427 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code and during investigations, only one person Mandeep Singh was made accused in the case.

During the trial, one of the victims submitted a video of the violence with the court showing the other accused looting and torching the shops.

The victims then identified the accused.

CASE WAS REGISTERED ON THE COMPLAINT OF LOCAL RESIDENTS, WHO ALLEGED THAT THEIR SHOPS WERE LOOTED, TORCHED DURING QUOTA STIR IN FEB LAST YEAR
