JALANDHAR: Sajan Kumar, 20, a Btech student, could not believe his ears when he received a call from Jalandhar Pinglaghar ,last week, regarding his father’s whereabouts. Kumar’s father, Suresh Kumar, had fled from house a decade ago.

His mother Rani, 46, and 15-year-old brother Sagar checked many times to confirm that they have found 55-year-old Kumar as the family had given up all the hopes of finding him again. A resident of Rupana village of Mukhtsar district, Suresh fled from home one night 10 years ago, when his son had gone outside to get medicine for him. Kumar worked as a daily wage labourer and was suffering from a mental illness from many years.

Sajan said that his mother started working as a house maid after their father went.

“We had filed a first information report (FIR)and even asked all the relatives to continue the search but were unable to find him,” said an elated Sajan. “I can’t express my happiness in words,” he added.

Kamaljit Singh, member of pinglaghar informed that Suresh Kumar was brought to them three years ago in a critical condition.

“He was brought here from police station division-1 and was in a bad state, both physically and mentally. Suresh hardly spoke to anyone in past three years,” said Kamajit Singh.

“It was only a fortnight ago, after his condition improved, he started talking about his wife and son in Rupana.” “Though he was unable to locate the exact address but after some efforts we were able to get in touch with his family,” he added.
