INLD A BUNCH OF OPPORTUNISTS, SAYS KHATTAR
ROHTAK: Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Sunday lashed out at the opposition Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), describing it as an opportunist party for staging a protest on the Sutlej-Yamuna Link (SYL) canal issue, a day before the Supreme Court’s decision on the matter.
Speaking at a ‘Van Mahotsav’ programme at Siwani, he said,
“The opposition party is trying to take credit of the BJP’s work by giving a call to stop Punjab vehicles. The Supreme Court is to give its directions in implementing its decision on the construction of SYL canal on July 11. The INLD is trying to claim maximum credit by organising its protest a day before the decision to befool public.”
He said for 12 years when INLD ruled Haryana, it did nothing to bring SYL waters to the state.Taking on former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda’s kisan mahapanchayats a day after his show of strength rally in Jind, Khattar said the fear of CBI and ED raids made Hooda call on farmers.
“For 10 years the Congress did not implement Swaminathan report. Hooda was the president of the committee of CMs formed to implement the report. But he did nothing. And now, he is suddenly remembering farmers,” Khattar said.
PROTEST WILL SPOIL PEACE: DHANKAR
Haryana agriculture minister Om Prakash Dhankar said the INLD’s protest will weaken the state’s case on the SYL issue and spoil the peaceful atmosphere.
“Haryana’s claim on the SYL canal is legally strong but INLD’s threat to block traffic will dent the state’s claim and spoil the peaceful atmosphere,” Dhankar said in Gurgaon.
