Forces gun down three ultras in Anantnag

SRINAGAR: Three unidentifi­ed militants were killed on Monday by the security forces in an encounter in Anantnag district of south Kashmir, defence officials said. The encounter broke out at around 8pm at Wanihama village of Anantnag, following an anti-militancy operation launched by security forces, said a defence spokespers­on.

“Based on specific informatio­n that three LeT terrorists would be passing through the Wanihama (Brakpora) area of Anantnag in a car, personnel of the Rashtriya Rifles and Special Operations Group (SOG) of the state police laid an ambush and engaged them, killing all three,” defence ministry spokesman Col. Rajesh Kalia said here.

Jammu and Kashmir Police DGP SP Vaid however, was quoted as saying the encounter occured by chance and that the indentitie­s of the deceased are being investigat­ed. “In a chance encounter, three terrorists were killedby joint team of security forces, identities are being ascertaine­d,” he said.
