Government restores crucial senior post in ITBP after three years

NEW DELHI : Foreign secretary S Jaishankar will brief the parliament­ary standing committee on external affairs on the issue of the Sino-India standoff at the border tri-junction with Bhutan on Tuesday. The foreign secretary along with other senior officials will brief the panel of which is chaired by Congress member of parliament (MP) Shashi Tharoor and also has party vice-president Rahul Gandhi as a member.

There has been tension in the area for the past three weeks after a Chinese army constructi­on party attempted to build a road there. Doka La is the Indian name for the region, which Bhutan recognises as Dokalam, while China claims it as part of its Donglang region.

ITBP POST RESTORED

The government has restored a crucial senior-level post in the Sino-India border guarding force ITBP after three years, a developmen­t seen as strengthen­ing the paramilita­ry.

1986-batch Indian Police Service officer R K Mishra today took over as the new additional director general (ADG) of the about 90,000 personnel strong force. The lone ADG post of the ITBP was diverted to the NDRF in February, 2014 by the Union home ministry.
