PINGALWARA SEEKS EXEMPTION
AMRITSAR: The Pingalwara Charitable Society, a home for physically and mentally challenged persons, has sought exemption from Goods and Service Tax (GST).
The society chairman Bibi Inderjit Kaur said this while addressing a press conference here on Monday. Kaur said, “The institution has different branches in Punjab and Chandigarh. We are accommodating as many as 1,764 patients who have no care taker.”
“We spent approximately ₹6.5 lakhper dayon purchase of ration, clothes, medicines, stationaries for them. The institution is also providing subsidised education to the students in its schools. For creating awareness about the environmentand spreading religious values, the literature is distributed free of cost,” she said.
Previously, the state government had exempted the institution from tax through special notification but the fresh GST will put an annual burden of ₹ 2 crore on the organisation.
“As the institution is rendering selfless service to human kind, it should be given exemption from GST,” she said.
She said they will also write to the state and the Centre government for exemption.
