BJP MUST DESIST FROM SPREADING HALFTRUTHS

-

Recently, Am it Shah, the president of the B JP, lauded Mahatma Gandhi’s foresight in calling for the disbanding of the Congress party after Independence. The comment was lost in the uproar over his use of a name for Mahatma Gandhi. This is just falsehood and as Sucheta Mahajan did in HT recently, the notion needs to be contested. How can anyone imagine to dismantle and destroy what is created with one’s blood and sweat? Gandhi could never dream of disbanding the party. He did want to change the party’s goals and bring reforms that were more in line with the country’s changed needs after Independence. This is nothing, but the BJP’s attempt to rake up an issue for political mileage. They spread half-truths that are even more dangerous than falsehood. The party should desist from this, especially when it makes moral and ethical claims. Sudershan Walia, Amritsar
