PAURI GARHWAL: Moved by poor quality of education in the state’s rural areas, some young IAS officers are trying to make some difference in the lives of students.

Rudraprayag district magistrate (DM) Mangesh Ghildiyal often pays surprise visits to schools for inspection. During one such visit recently, he interacted with students and shared a lesson on mathematics with them. He also found that there was no science teacher in Government Girls Inter College Rudraprayag.

His wife Usha, a science doctorate, offered to help the students and is taking up science classes. Her sincerity and teaching skills have already made her a favourite among the students.

“My wife would continue till a permanent teacher is appointed at the school. In fact, there are many schools in the district that need adequate teaching staff and efforts are on to address the issue,” Ghildiyal told HT over phone.
