FAILED OPPOSITION NARRATIVE

-

BJP has been the principal party in power since 2014 and the opposition has failed to put together a strong narrative to counter it or highlight its failures. The party’s victories in assembly polls have also sowed the seeds of doubt in the opposition’s mind. Now, things have come to such a pass that even a grand alliance of opposition parties, i.e. the formation of a ‘Mahagath bandhan’ is viewed as opportunitism and compulsion of opposition leaders to save their own political ground. The absence of any constructive plan or vision lends further credence to this perception. Just opposing PM Modi is the only common thread binding the opposition. Voters are, thus, reluctant to support the idea of a collective opposition alliance that can counter the resurgent BJP. Karan Vinayak, via email
