ROHTAK: Angry over increasing power cuts, residents of Atayal and Gandhra villages in Rohtak on Tuesday attacked power nigam officials in Sampla town.

The villagers resorted to violence, alleging that their grievances were not being addressed. An SDO and other officials were physically assaulted, while a senior division clerk received injuries.

On complaint of the villagers, UHBVN superintending engineer SK Bansal said, ”There was a technical fault in lines and it was being rectified. We have lodged a police complaint against the villagers.”

The police have booked five people by name and 100-150 others under Sections 147, 149, 186, 332, 353, 380 and 487 of the IPC. The officials said villagers took away official records with them.

In another similar incident, villagers attacked a team of power officials at Kheri Meham village and damaged their vehicle by pelting stones at it.

The nigam filed a complaint in this case as well, based on which the police booked six people by name and several other unnamed accused. HTC
