J&K SPECIAL STATUS: CENTRE HAS EVADED RESPONSIBILITY

-

Apropos‘ Centre wants debate on J&K special status’ (HT, July 18), by not reacting to the petition concerning Article 35-A pending in the Supreme Court, the Centre has ducked its constitutional obligations. Plebiscite being mulled over scrapping of Article 35A is fine, but where do we go from here. Why should special status be given to those who have never condemned the Pakistansponsored terrorism in the state. We have lost count on how many ceasefire violations have taken place, resulting in killing of our jaw ans. The government can not afford to prolong the issue involving safety and security of tee ming millions of innocent lives in the Valley. It needs to take an urgent call on the issue and clear the air on what it has admitted was a ‘very sensitive’ matter. Ramesh K Dhiman,
