Heavy rains lash Jammu, two swept away in Udhampur river
JAM MU: The incessant rain threw life out of the gear in the upper reaches of Jammu on Tuesday.
The continuous rain led to waterlogging in low-lying areas while many canals and rivers of the region have reached near the danger mark. The power supply too remained erratic.
TWO DROWN IN NULLAH
Two persons drowned in a gushing Pachound nullah in Dudu area of Latti tehsil in Udhampur district.
Dudu police post in-charge sub-inspector (SI) Vipin Bangotra said, “Two persons left their houses in the morning and did not return till afternoon. Police along with locals launched a search and rescue operation at 3 pm, but we haven’t found them yet.”
“The missing persons were identified as Mo ham med Sharief, 70, and Rekha Devi, 18. Both are locals and resident of Pachound number one,” he added.
LAND SLIDES DISRUPT TRAFFIC ON HIGHWAY
The mudslides and shooting of stones triggered by heavy downpour led to closure of Jammu- Srinagar national highway again on Tuesday afternoon at Panthyal near Banihal and also at Kh erin ear Udhamp ur for nearly three hours. Meanwhile, heavy downpour and fog around the cave shrine of Mat a Va i sh no Dev i have forced the authorities to suspend chopper services from base camp Katra to Sanjichat.
