Kalita appointed Congress chief whip in Rajya Sabha

NEWDELHI: The Congress on Tuesday appointed senior leader Bhubaneswar Kalita as its chief whip in the Rajya Sabha. Kalita, who is a Rajya Sabha MP from Assam, replaces another party veteran Satyavrat Chaturvedi who had six months ago requested the leadership to relieve him of the charge. Chaturvedi is a member of the Upper House from Madhya Pradesh. “I had requested my leadership to relieve me of my responsibility,” Chaturvedi said.
