POLICE RECOVER VICTIM FROM PARENTS’ HOUSE WITHIN TWO HOURS; SEND HER TO INLAWS; COUPLE HAD TIED THE KNOT ON JULY 16 AND HAD MOVED COURT FOR POLICE PROTECTION

TARN TARAN : Family members, opposed to the choice of groom, of a newly-wed 19-year-old woman from Chabhal Kalan village allegedly kidnapped her from inside the Judicial Court Complex on Wednesday.

The couple, who had tied the knot on July 16 (Sunday), had moved the district and sessions court for police protection, fearing danger to their lives from the woman’s family. The case was listed for hearing at noon, but the victim, Lovepreet Kaur, was forcibly taken away by six of her relatives, including the mother.

Two hours later, the police recovered her from her parents’ house and she was sent to her in-laws house.

The incident raises question marks on the security in the area as the district administration complex and the district police administration complex are also located nearby.

Advocate JS Dhillon, the lawyer of Lovepreet, said, “The girl had sought police protection from court as she feared for her life after the wedding. Her family members were against his wedding.”

“We had gone to the court complex for a hearingon the couple’s plea for police protection. Six family members of Love p re et arrived at the spot and started thrashing her. They took her away forcibly, in spite of our resistance,” said Balbir Chand, maternal uncle of the Lovepreet’s husband, Harpreet Singh, 22.

Tarn Taran SHO Manoj Kumar said, “The woman’s in-laws lodged a complaint. We sent a team and got the woman back to her in-laws.” He claimed a case will be registered after investigation.
