POK TRUCK DRIVER HELD WITH 66KG ‘HEROIN’ IN J&K

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir police on Friday arrested a Pakistan occupied Kashmir resident after they recovered 66 kg of narcotics suspected to be heroin from a goods truck he was driving from PoK into north Kashmir. Syed Yousuf was taken into custody. ››

SRINAGAR: J&K police arrested a Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) resident on Friday, and recovered narcotics from his goods truck he was driving from PoK into north Kashmir.

Accused Syed Yousuf was taken into custody and a case under Section 29 of the (NDPS) Act was registered at Uri police station in Baramulla.

“We have so far recovered 66.5 kg narcotic drugs, which appear to be heroine. Further search is on,” saidBaramu­lla SSP Imtiyaz Hussain.

Police said they had specific informatio­n that large quantity of narcotic drugs were being carried by some PoK-borne truck coming towards this side by means of cross LoC trade. The drugs were recovered during search of a truck in the premises of Trade Centre Salamabad, Uri.

The official said the drugs were hidden in fake cavities specifical­ly fabricated for this purpose in boxes purportedl­y to contain mercantile goods.

The official said they have sent the samples to forensic science laboratory to ascertain which drug it was and a special investigat­ion team (SIT) has been formed to inquire the origin and destinatio­n of the drugs.
