10 men posing as cops loot family at gunpoint
GURGAON: In an incident bearing uncanny similarities to hit Bollywood con flick ‘Special 26’, a gang of around 10 men posed as officials of criminal investigation department (CID) and looted a family at gunpoint after entering a house on the outskirts of Farrukhnagar, 22 km from Gurgaon. The incident took place in the wee hours of Friday.
As per the complainant, the accused were carrying iron rods, sticks, and countrymade weapons and were only wearing under garments. The police suspect the role of tribal gangs, as Farrukhnagar and neighbouring Pataudi have seen similar incidents in which tribal gangs posed as policemen to carry out criminal activities.
On January 28, a gang posing as policemen entered the rooms of labourers at a factory site in M and pu ra village in Pat audi and allegedly gang-raped two women and looted their families.
According to the police, around 10 men entered the house of Hari Ram alias Akbar Yadav in Ch and Nag ark iD han ia round 3am claiming to be CID officials.
“The accused said that they had information that illegal weapons had been stockpiled in the house and they had come to carry out searches. The owner told them that he had no weap- ons, but allowed them to check the house, thus giving them an opportunity to carry out the heist,” Tanya Singh, ACP Pataudi , said.
As soon as the criminals entered the house, Yadav sensed that they were not policemen but criminals who had come to loot them. “The criminals took the family at gunpoint and asked for keys and when the woman refused to part with it, they turned violent,” Singh said.
G ur ga on police commissioner Sandeep Khirwar also went to the spot. A forensic team and sniffer dogs were also rushed to the spot to gather more clues from the scene. ACP Singh said that teams have been formed to probe the case.
Three men stood at the main gate and two others went to the roof of the house and took positions, Yadav said.
He said the accused tied him up and asked his wife Omwati to hand over the keys. As she refused, they hit her with an iron rod, he said.
He said three of them then went inside the house, dragged his daughter-in-law Babita and grandson Naveen out and snatched earrings from the former.
He said as the accused threatened to shoot his grandson, he gave up all resistance and told the gang members to take whatever they want.
The accused took the keys of the almirahs and looted ₹1.05 lakh, five gold rings, one gold chain, two pairs of earrings and several small ornaments along with two mobile phones.
