CM KEEPS MUM ON CONTROVERSIAL ISSUES

-

Khattar listed several “achievements” on the completion of 1,000 days of his govt. But he did not say a word on many controversies that rocked the state during the BJP rule. HT lists out five such issues

Haryana witnessed the worstever caste violence and arson during the Jat agitation for quota in February, 2016, in which 30 people were killed and property worth hundreds of crores were destroyed. Army had to be called in as there was no rule of law in eight districts of the state for several days in a row. Controversy had erupted over the transfer of land worth crores of rupees in Gwalpahari area of Gurgaon to private builders, though the same was withheld after protests; Even BJP MLA

Umesh Agrawal protested over the issue a few months ago. He slammed the government functioning, leaving it red-faced. Two Dalit children were burnt alive in Sunped village in Faridabad last year following a clash between two castes. There were allegations against biased police functioning. Junaid Khan, 15, was killed on-board a train by a group of youths in Ballabhgarh last month who allegedly called him a “beef eater” before stabbing him to death. The state government was slow to react though

communal remarks were said to be the trigger for clash. The government insisted the fight was over the seat in the train. The issues pertaining to ‘beef’ biryani and cow vigilantes repeatedly brought Haryana in bad light. There was an uproar over beef in Biryani in Mewat after the police was asked to check the same. The state government also preferred to keep mum despite several incidents of shootouts and violence in Kurukshetra and Karnal areas between “cow smugglers” and “gau-rakshaks”.
