Cong will contest MC polls on devp agenda: Sidhu
AMRITSAR :Local bodies minister Navjot Singh Sidhu visited Amritsar to inaugurate the rail over bridge at Verka on Friday.
Sidhu said, “The Congress government will contest the municipal corporation elections based on the development agenda .” He said ,“Chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh will himself visit all the poll bound cities to roll out the developmental plan.”
“A comprehensive developmental plan encompassing all sectors is being chalked out ,” he said. “Two big sports parks will come up in Amritsar and Ludhiana .“New de limitation of wards will come into effect before the municipal council polls. Increased number of wards will take part in the polls, to be held within this year,” he said.
He said, “Six bridges will be constructed in Amritsar to ensure smooth commuting, including the bridge coming up at Tarn Taran road.” He said, new bridges will be constructed at Sant Sukha Singh Chowk, Valla bye-pass, Putlighar andBh andari Bridge and will be operational within 2 months. An underpass will also be constructed at Joura Phatak, he said.
A new advertisement policy to increase income of municipal councils, by 40-50 crore, working in the bigger cities is being formulated, he said.
Punjab government will spend ₹100 crore on the re-construction of roads, he said. A sports park across 26 acre, adjoining Ranjit Avenue, with track facility for athletes, four cricket pitches, badminton court etc will be available, he said.
Notably the inaugural plaque of the bridge reads ‘Dedicated to the people of Punjab’. It does not carry any politician’s name.The bridge has been constructed under BRTS project at a cost of ₹23 crore.
Sidhu who has been vocal against the cable mafia in Punjab again repeated that he will take the matter to a logical conclusion and guilty will face action. He said that he will soon make further exposes in the matter.
