NEW DELHI : Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Friday reiterated his charge that the Narendra Modi government’s policies were “burning” Jam mu and Kashmir, which has been on the boil since the encounter of HizbulMuja hide en commander Burhan Wani last year.

“I have been saying this for a long time that Modi and the NDA’s policies are burning Jammu and Kashmir,” the Congress V-P said at the Parliament House Complex.

The main Opposition party has been unsparing on the state’s PDP-BJP coalition government over the deteriorating law and order situation in Kashmir. On July 10, the Valley was rocked by a terrorist attack on a bus carrying Amarnath pilgrims, which left eight yatris dead.

“Where there was harmony, there is disco rd. Where there was tolerance, there is provocation. Where there was relative calm, as in Kashmir, there is growing confrontation, tension and fear ,” Congress president Son ia Gandhi had said at the party’s working committee meeting on June 6.

Asserting that no third party intervention was required to resolve the Kashmir issue, Rahul said :“India is Kashmir and Kashmir is India. It is being said there should be discussion on Kashmir with China and Pakistan but this is our internal matter... our internal business and no one should interfere in it”.

PAK OPENS FIRE

Pakistani forces again opened fire on Indian posts in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Friday, army officials said.

An army spokesman said that the cease fire violations happened in Naugam and Keran sectors of Kupwaradistrict. “Wearegiving a befitting response to the ceasefire violations by Pakistan,” the army spokesman said.

Police, however, said that they had no information about ceasefire violation in Keran but acknowledged intermittent firing in Naugam.
