GST has come as a boon both for the Central government and for the state government, as this system is expected to generate more revenue for the government. Sadly, the central government has not exempted religious places from the tax. The kitchens at these places feed thousands of people every day for free. The demand for GST exemption has been there now for some time, but the government has refused to act. This, from a government that has let a loan defaulter like Vijay Mallya go scot-free. We hope the government makes such an announcement soon.
