Sukhbir seeks case against finance minister
SAYS MANPREET BADAL PLAYED PIVOTAL ROLE IN FORMING POLL MANIFESTO THAT PROMISED DEBT WAIVER FOR FARMERS
TERRA(AJNALA): Former chief minister and SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal visited the house of deceased farmer Major Singh,44, here on Wednesday.
Badal accused the state government of misleading the state farmers and demanded a case to be registered against Punjab finance minister Manpreet Badal.
Sukhbir was accompanied by former cabinet minister Bikram Singh Majithia. Badal said, “The Congressgovernmentmisledthe farmer community by making debt waiver announcement before the polls.” “The back-toback incidents of farmer suicides indicate that the government has failed to deliver,” he said.
Speaking about the suicide committed by Major Singh Sukhbir said, “Major Singh specifically mentioned in his suicide note that he voted for this government on the promise of debt waiver but as the government failed to do so he took the extreme step,”
He said, “As per the law, people mentioned in the suicide note are booked. Since finance minister ManpreetBadalwas the man behind the party’s manifesto, a case must be registered against Manpreet Badal along with Capt Amarinder Singh.”
Former minister Bikram Singh Majithia said, “It is shocking that nobody from the Congress has visited the family yet. The Congress government must waive off Major Singh’s entire debt, provide a compensation of ₹10 lakh to the family and a job to his son.”
Majithia said, “The state is going through an alarming situation and farmers are committing suicides regularly. But the government is in a deep slumber.”
Opposition leader in Vidhan Sabha, Sukhpla Khaira, had also visited the deceased’s family on Monday. MajorS ingh’ ss on Sawinderpal Singh had also said that his father was upset due to debt of around ₹11 lakh, which drove him to commit suicide.
