Lawyers strike work against professional tax

BATHINDA: Lawyers at the Bathinda district courts on Friday observed a strike against the Punjab government’s proposal to levy professional tax on lawyers. District bar association president Ranjit Singh Jalal said, “Lawyers across the state struck work against the proposed professional tax to be levied on them. We will intensify our protest, if the government does not listen to us and does not withdraw the proposal. The imposition of the tax is wrong and discriminatory on the part of the state government. All lawyers are opposed to it.
