Gang busted, 13 stolen vehicles recovered

AMRITSAR: The police claimed to have busted a gang of vehicle lifters and robbers here on Friday.

Three people were arrested and 13 stolen vehicles including a car and few mobile phones were recovered, said deputy commission­er (DC) (investigat­ion) Jagmohan Singh during a press conference.

The arrested persons have been identified as Sukhraj Singh, Baljit Singh, both of Kamboj village in Amritsar district and Jaimal Singh from Chohla village in Ferozpur district, said DC.

A team of Criminal Investigat­ion Agency (CIA) led by assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Balwinder Singh installed a naka near Hartej Hospital, Ranjit Avenue on Thursday night.

The police acted based on a tip-off the accused are coming from Gumtala bypass to the city in a white car, DC said.

“The car was stopped at the naka and on checking the trio failed to produce documents of car. All were detained and the car was seized,” said DC. On the accused’s instance nine Activa scooters and four mobile phones were seized, said the DC.

The police officials said that the car recovered was stolen by the accused on Wednesday from Ranjit Avenue locality. The police said that more recoveries are expected in coming days.CIA in-charge inspector Joga Singh said, “The fourth member of the gang is absconding.” He said the arrested persons are already booked in many cases of snatchings and burglaries.

In their recent offence, a case has been registered against them under Sections 379-B (snatching and use of force), 379 (punishment for theft) and 411(dishonestl­y receiving stolen property) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Civil Lines police station, said assistant commission­er of police (investigat­ion) Tejbir Singh.
