3 held at IGI airport for smuggling agarwood

NEW DELHI: Three persons were arrested from the IGI airport in New Delhi on Thursday on charges of trying to smuggle out 71 kilograms of agarwood.

“We had very specific informatio­n about the accused persons, including their photograph­s. They had boarded the flight from Guwahati and were heading for Kuwait via Delhi and Mumbai,” said a senior official of the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau.

A raid was conducted by the WCCB and the Directorat­e of Revenue Intelligen­ce and three persons – Md Samsul Islam, Md Helal Uddin and Mohibur Rehman - were arrested. Preliminar­y interrogat­ion revealed that the trio have been to Kuwait earlier at least three to four times each with agarwood. HTC
