AJMER : Parents of a 15-year-old girl, who was abducted nearly two months ago, received a call on Friday from her kidnappers demanding ₹2 lakh ransom.

The matter came to light on Saturday when the girl’s parents met inspector general of Ajmer range Malini Agarwal to apprise her about the development.

Karina Bano of Harsor village was abducted on June 10 when she was returning home after buying grocery items from Thanwla market. A missing report was registered at Thanwla police station on the same day.

Her father said the kidnappers also warned him not to approach police for his daughter’s safety. “Abductors asked me to come to Delhi with ₹2 lakh to get my daughter back,” said her father Nathu Khan.

“They told me that my daughter was in Gurgaon (Haryana) and would be released as soon as I pay them the amount,” said Khan.

Inspector general Agarwal on Saturday directed Thanwla Police to expedite their investigation. “The parents and some people from Harsor had visited me, I have asked Thanwla SHO to trace the girl without further delay,” said Agarwal.

The girl’s family, meanwhile, accused police of not making enough efforts to trace the girl.

“I go to police station daily to inquire about the progress in their investigation. Every time I get the same reply from SHO that they are investigating and will let us know whenever they get any information,” said Shakur Khan, uncle of the girl.

When contacted, Thanwla police station SHO Mahavir Singh said: “We are investigating the matter.”

People of Harsor village threatened to launch an agitation. “Let me tell police officials that villagers will intensify agitation if they did not come out with concrete information about girls whereabouts within next couple of days,” said Rajendra Vaishnav, a social activist.
