Three held for planning to loot gold loan firm

JAIPUR: Three men were arrested in Jaipur for allegedly planning to loot a gold loan company.

U mesh J at, San deep B ala ia nd Uday Sharma, all in their early 20s, had done a recce of the IIFL gold loan company in Khatipura area of Jaipur, police said.

The arrests came following two major armed robberies in the city last week.

On July 20, two armed robbers entered the UCO Bank branch in Adarsh Nagar and decamped with ₹14.77 lakh after taking a number of people hostage in the bank.

The next day, four men entered the office of Muthoot Finance in Mansarovar with weapons and looted over 30 kg of gold worth ₹9 crore.

Kunwar Rastradeep, deputy commission­er of police (DCP), Jaipur East, said that the police had prepared a list of suspects after last week’s robberies and was rounding them up.

“The trio was among the suspects and after interrogat­ion they revealed that they were planning to rob the company ,” he said.

The arrested men had earlier also tried to break the State Bank of India (SBI) ATM in Murlipura area after sticking a tape over the camera in the ATM cubicle, the DCP said.

Besides, they had also allegedly tried to uproot an ATM of the SBI in Kanota area.

The DCP, however, clarified that the arrested people had no connection with the last week’s armed robberies. The police have also seized a Swift Dzire car from the trio.
