Heavy rain triggers landslips in HP, Jammu
SHIMLA: Heavy rains lashed parts of Himachal Pradesh, triggering landslides and blockage of over 150 roads in the interior areas.
A person was buried in a landslide in La haul and Spiti, two women were also injured in Shimla following the damage which was caused when a tree fell over a women hostel at Sanjauli. A car was buried under the debris and over a dozen houses were damaged in Kangra, Kullu and Mandi districts, an official spokesman said.
The PWD, irrigation, public health and electricity board have suffered a loss of about Rs 250 crore due to damage caused by the rains, he added.
The vehicular traffic was suspended in R oh ru and Chop al area of Shimla. The traffic was also affected in Mandi, Kullu and in Palampur area of Kangra.
The rains also hampered construction work on Shim l a-K alka four-laning project near Solan.
Shimla has received 66mm rains till Monday afternoon, which flooded the roads and brought normal life to a halt.
LANDSLIDES IN JAMMU
Incessant rains led to multiple landslides in Jammu and Kashmir’s Mehar and Seeri and triggered shooting of stones from a hillock at Panthyal, forcing closure of the Jammu- Srinagar National Highway briefly.
Katra and the highway towns of Udhampur and Ramban have been lashed by rains since last evening while Jammu city recorded 17 mm of rainfall.
TWO DROWN IN WATER RESERVOIR IN LEH
SRINAGAR: Am an and his grandaughter drowned in a reservoir near a farm in Ladakh, police said. Murup Dorjay, a shephard, and his granddaughter Tashi Lamo, residents of Leh’s Nidder post, fell into the reservoir in N yo ma area, a police spokesman said.The bodies were handed over to their family members after postmortem.
