CHANDIGARH : The water level in Pong Dam on the Beas river has risen by over 20 feet in the past 10 days due to incessant rain, the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) said on Tuesday.

The level at the reservoir on Tuesday was at 1,348.55 feet compared to that in the corresponding day last year, a senior official said. “We may have to open spill gates for the release of water after 10-15 days,” the official said. If “excess” water is released, Hoshiarpur, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Tarn Taran and Ferozepur will need to be alerted, he added.
