Hoshiarpur doctor’s murder: Nephew held

HOSHIARPUR: The police on Tuesday claimed to have solved the murder case of city doctor Manju S harm a by ar resting her nephew Amit Sharma, a travel agent in Jalandhar.

Dr S harm a, a septuagena­rian, was killed at her home-cum- nursing home on the Mall Road, a short distance from the residence of senior superinten­dent of police (SSP) on July 28.

Jalandharz one inspector general (IG) Arpit Shukla said that since nothing had been stolen from the house, the police believed it tobe the handiwork of someone close to the victim and hence questioned her kin and acquaintan­ces.

He said probe revealed that Am it S harm a had cometo Hoshiarpur to borrow Rs 2.50 lakh from his aunt as he was going through a financial crisis .“He had a scuffle with his aunt when she refused to give him money. Eventually, he hit her and strangulat­ed her with her dupatta. We have sufficient evidence to prove his culpabilit­y,” he added.

SSP J Elanchezhi­an said the police have recovered some blank affidavits from the accused’ s custody, which had Dr Manju Sharma’s signature. HTC
