2 gangs of thieves, vehicle lifters busted in Tarn Taran, 10 arrested

TARN TARAN : The Tarn Taran police claimed to have busted a gang of thieves and another of motorcycle lifters on Tuesday and ar resting 10 miscreants in all from Amarkot and Patti.

The police arrested six of the gang of thieves and recovered a.315 bore pistol, two live rounds, six motorcycle­s, three sharpedged weapons, a hand pump handle and an electronic cutter. The gang was active in looting ATMs by using electronic cutters, besides making theft bids in the area, said the police.

The arrested gang members were identified as Samsher Singh, 23; Rajandeep Singh, 22; Dilbag Singh, 25 (all belonging to Bhagwanpur­a village), Bhagat Ram, 24, of Chambal village; Harpreet Singh, 21, of Piddi village and Lovepreet, 21, of Sabran village.

During a press conference, superinten­dent of police (SP) (investigat­ion), Tilak Raj said, “Valtoha station house officer (SHO)Kamalmeet Singhgotat­ip- off that a gang of thieves was active in the area and planning a theft bid. The SHO raided an abandoned room of the grain market in Amarkot, 40 km from the district headquarte­r and arrested the six members.”

“The gangis involved in more than seven thefts in Tarn Taran, besides looting wheat from godowns of Hoshiarpur, Batala, Ferozepur and Fazilka districts. They looted the godowns after holding their watch men captive ,” he added.

A case under Section 399 (preparing to commit dacoity), 402 (assembling for purpose of committing dacoity), 379 (punishment for theft), 411 (dishonestl­y receiving stolen property) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and other sections of the Arms Act has been registered against the six accused.

The SP further said, “After receiving a tip-off, Patti SHO Mohit Kumar also raided a hideout of a gang of motorcycle lifters and arrested four of its members from Patti, 23 km from here.”

The police recovered six motorcycle­s from their posses- si on. The arrested members were identified as Naginder Singh, 28; Gurbhej Singh, 27, (both of Assal Uttar); Gurmej Singh, 35, of Amarkot and Sukh dev Singh ,30, of Patti.

They have been booked under Section 379 (punishment for theft), 411 (dishonestl­y receiving stolen property) of the IPC.

In another breakthrou­gh, the police claimed to have arrested Inderjit Singh, 32, from Jalloke village after recovering 250 kg of poppy husk from his possession.

The SP said that Sadar Patti SHO Rajesh Kakkar also recovered a pistol of .32 bore and four live rounds from the accused’s possession. A case under relevant sections of the NDPS and Arms Act has been registered him.
