HIMACHAL PROTESTS: IS THERE A POLL ANGLE?

Himachal Pradesh has been in news for all the wrong reasons to protests over rape and now communal tension in Chamba. This is intriguing as Himachalis are, by and large, peaceful people. One angle that comes out is that the state is nearing assembly elections, and political bosses are all charged up and plotting things to again excite and polarise people. Of late, around election time in any state, the news flow that explodes is terrorism stories, cow vigilantism and the like. Even more intriguingly, as soon as elections conclude, such events peter out. While people have the right to protest and over just issues and right causes, but the public should not let political leaders make a fool of them. Amanvir Singh Tiwana,
