Six axed TMC MLAs join BJP in Tripura

Saffron party is eyeing to extend its base in the Northeast

AGARTALA: The Bharatiya Janata Party( B JP) on Monday inducted six axed Trinamool Congress (TM C) legislator­s in Tripura and expressed confidence that it would win all 60 seats in the state in 2018 to end the dominance of communists. Union minister of state for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Dhar mendra Prad han, welcomed the six ML As—Su dip Roy Barman, Asish Saha, Di ba Chandra Hr ankh awl, Pr anaj it Sing ha Roy, Biswab andhu Sen and Di lip Sarkar — to the BJP at a programme in Agartala.

TMC axed the six MLAs, who had in June 2016 crossed over from the Congress, for anti-party activities after they decided to vote for Ram Nath Kovind, then th eNDA’s nominee for President.

B JP already has government­s in Arunachal Pradesh (on its own), in Assam and Manipur (in coalition with regional parties), and in Nagaland (as a partner of Na ga People’ s Front ), andi snow eyeing Tripurato extend its political presence in the Northeast. During the BJP’ s three-year rule at the Centre, more than 40 central ministers have visited Tripura. BJP’s Tripura observer, Sunil Deodhar, said, “We have entered Tripura assembly with six M LAs now.The next year, we will dominate in all the 60 seats in the assembly polls.”

After joining the BJP, Barman pledged to work to make the party stronger in the state to oust the Leftgovern­mentheaded­byacoaliti­onledbythe­CommunistP­arty of India (Marxist) along with other Left parties.
