Braid-chop hysteria continues, 10 more cases in a day across state

TARAN TARAN/MOGA/PATIALA : The braid-chop hysteria continued in various parts of Punjab, with ten more women on Wednesday making claims of their hair being chopped off in mysterious circumstan­ces.

Five such cases were reported from Tarn Taran, four from Moga and one from Patiala.

In Tarn Taran, all the five women claimed that they found their hair chopped off after they saw cats in their premises.

Rajbir Kaur, 38, a resident of Sarai Amanat Khan village, said she was sleeping at her home with her two children on Tuesday night when she felt itching on her head. “I noticed a cat on the outer wall of our house. When I touched my hair, I found my braid chopped off.”

Swarn Kaur (55) of Nanaksar locality in Tarn Tarn city, said, “When I was lying on my bed on Tuesday night, I saw two white cats wandering in my house. Suddenly, one of them turned black. When I touched my head, my braid was chopped off.”

Kirna, 35, a resident of ward number 19 of Tarn Taran, claimed that she was sleeping in the courtyard of their house on

Wednesday morning. “At around 6 am, I heard a cat’ s me ow and found that my braid was chopped off.”

In another incident in the same locality, Aarti, 21, claimed her braid was cut at around 1 pm on Wednesday. “I was feeding milk to my baby when I noticed a cat in my home. I found my braid was chopped off.”

Rajbir Kaur, 26, of Mohalla Tank Kushatri in Tarn Taran, said, “I was sitting in the courtyard of my house. I saw a cat and suddenly noticed that my chopped braid was lying in my lap.”

Tarn Taran city SHO said, “We have not received any complaint. If anyone complains, action will be taken.”

Mukhwinder Singh Chohla, a member of Tarksheel Society, claimed, “All such incidents are the handiwork of miscreants.”

Meanwhile, youths of different localities in Tarn Taran have decided to stand guard at night to prevent any mischievou­s elements entering their areas.

Malkiat Singh of Nanaksar said, “We kept guarding our locality on Tuesday night and will continue the drill till the hysteria continues.”

Tarsem Singh of ward number 19 said, “It seems there is a gang active in the city, so we have decided to guard our locality at night.

In Moga, four cases of braid chopping were reported from various villages. The victims were identified as Binder Kaur of Van dar village, Harpreet Kaur of Langeana Nawan village, Navdeep Kaur of Nathuwala Garbi village and Daljeet Kaur of Singhpura Munan village.

Binder, Harpreet and Navdeep claimed that their braids were chopped off when they were sleeping.
