We did not withhold 2016 MD/MS exam result, says BFUHS
OF THE 472 STUDENTS WHO TOOK THE EXAM LAST YEAR, 123 CANDIDATES FAILED IN EITHER THEORY OR PRACTICAL OR BOTH
FARIDKOT: After some candidates whotooktheMD/MSexamslast year reached the Punjab higher education authorities accusing Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS) of not releasing their result till date, the health minister has sought an explanation from the university.
However, a senior BFUHS officialwho did not want tobenamed, saidonWednesday, “We haven’t withheld result of any candidate.
Of the 472 students who took the exam last year, 123 candidates failed in either theory or practical or both. Of these, 43 knocked the doors of the high court.”
These students claim that they took the exams in May/ June last year but the university didn’t declare their results due to which they failed to get jobs.
The official said, “The bone of contention is the letter issued to the university by the Medical Council of India (MCI) indicating that an examinee should obtain 40% marks in each theory paper and not less than 50% cumulative marks in all the papers. However, the court did not con- sider it, declaring that the notification was still not published in the existing regulations.”
Of the 123 postgraduate (MD/ MS and diploma) course students who failed in the exams, 108 students were declared passed after re-evaluation of their result, or many of them have passed in the subsequent examination in May this year as the result was declared in June 2017.
“Presently, there are only 17 students out of these 123 who couldn’t pass even after re-evaluation. The result of these students was also declared with other students declaring them as fail; and hence there is not a single candidate whose result was withheld,” said the official.
Sources said university authorities have been called to clarify the issue to the higher education authorities in Chandigarh.
