Guard who thwarted robbery bid run over by car twice, dies

GURGAON: A 36-year-old security guard, deployed at Block F in Sector 57, was run over twice by a Maruti Swift car on Monday night. The man succumbed to injuries on Tuesday at a private hospital.

The deceased was identified as Gopi Ahirwal, a resident of Madhya Pradesh. He was living in a rented accommodat­ion in Wazirabad village for the last one month.

The accused are reportedly thieves who steal side mirrors of cars and the guard had reportedly stopped them from committing the theft a few days before the incident involving the car.

Ahirwal was reportedly lying on the road for 20 minutes after being hit till the security head spotted him surrounded by onlookers.

He informed the police and his senior officials about the mishap and rushed him to a private hospital nearby. Ahirwal suffered multiple fractures on his hands, legs and his spinal cord was injured too, said the police.

The CCTV footage, available with Hindustan Times, clearly shows a white Maruti Swift car coming on the wrong lane and rammingthe­guard.Fouryouths were in the car and they stopped the vehicle for about two minutes after the guard went under the car. They then reversed the car and again run over Ahirwal, leaving him bleeding profusely.

The accused then fled in the cartowards­HongKongMa­ll,the police said.
