Cops seize 5 lakh tablets of banned medicines, one held

TARN TARAN: The anti-narcotics cell (ANC) of Tarn Taran police claimed to have unearthed a drug smuggling rack et on Wednesday. Police have arrested a wholesale dealer with 5 lakh banned medicines from Am an deep Avenue near GT road here. The accused, Satish Kumar ,45, of Tarn Taran smuggled banned medicines in different districts of the Punjab, said the police.

Meanwhile, the police department sources disclosed that the police had earlier arrested a chain of eight small drug peddlers before arresting the whole sale dealer. As per sources, the police after interrogat­ing the eight smugglers approached Satish and caught him red-handed with the drugs.

The cops recovered 10,000 capsules of Primyvon Spas ,2,70,000 medicines of etizolam, 2,20,000 tablets of tramadol, ₹ 80,000 cash and a Hyundai i20 car. During a press conference senior superinten­dent of police (SSP) Darshan Sing hM ann said ,“The in-charge of A NC, sub inspector Manj in der Singh,hadl aid aN aka at Am andeep Avenue in Ta rn Tar an, after receiving a tip-off.”

He said, “During a routine check, the police stopped aHyu nd a ii 20 car .”

“A police team searched the car on suspicion ,” said Mann. We recovered 1,15,000 banned medi- cines from the vehicle, said the SSP. “On investigat­ing further, we recovered 3,75,000 banned medicines from Satish’s house,” he said.

The SSP claimed it to be one of the biggest drug recoveries so far. The accused was actively supplying drugs to smugglers across the state, said Mann. SSP said, “A case under Sections 22, 29, 61 and 85 of th eND PS Act has been registered against Satish.
